Hon'ble ICT State Minister urges Japanese investors to recruit Bangladeshi IT professionals

State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak on Thursday urged the Japanese investors to capitalise on the benefits and invest in the IT sector of Bangladesh and to recruit Skilled Bangladeshi IT professionals, reports UNB.

While addressing a seminar virtually, he highlighted the prospects and opportunities of the ICT sector in Bangladesh. 

Palak explained the facilities and support like Hi-Tech Park, tax benefits, one stop service etc. the government is offering to foreign investors, especially in the ICT sector. 

He also explained the rationale for choosing Bangladesh as an ideal investment destination for ICT.  

The webinar on the prospect of Bangladesh’s IT sector in Japan was organised jointly by the Embassy of Bangladesh, Tokyo, and Fujitsu Research Institute. 

Palak presented the keynote paper. 

Senior Secretary of ICT Division NM Zeaul Alam, Secretary of Ministry of Commerce Dr Md Jafar Uddin, Hosne Ara Begum, managing director of Hi-Tech Park Authority and Chargé d' Affaires (CDA) of the Mission Dr Sahida Akter joined the seminar. 

More than 140 representatives from different Japanese companies and around 50 Bangladeshi companies attended the webinar. 

Sahida Akter welcomed all the participants to the webinar and thanked all for attending the event.  

Later, Hosne Ara Begum discussed the facilities and advantages of Hi-Tech Park of Bangladesh. 

Senior Secretary NM Zeaul Alam, and Secretary Dr Md Jafar Uddin shed light on the socio-economic scenarios and recent economic developments of Bangladesh and offered full cooperation for Japanese investors in the country's ICT sector and invited them to invest in Bangladesh. 

Country representative of JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization) Yuji Ando, Deputy Director of JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) Seiko Yamabe, Masayuki Osuka Co-Chairman of JISA (Japan Information Technology Service Industry Association) and Syed Almas Kabir, President of BASIS (Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Service) and Mydul Islam from Fujitsu Research Institute also discussed on various aspects, prospects and challenges involved in investing in Bangladesh.    

Tareq Rafi Bhuiyan made a presentation on various facets of ICT in Bangladesh. Video documentaries showcasing the development of Bangladesh and Hi-Tech Park were screened at the event. 

The seminar was supported by ICT Division of Bangladesh, Investment and Technology Promotion Office (ITPO Tokyo) of United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), JICA and BASIS. 

Dr Ziaul Abedin, minister and HOC of the embassy, conveyed the vote of thanks to the participants. 

The programme was moderated by Dr Ariful Haque, commercial counselor of the embassy.
