Roundtable Meeting on RMG Industry of Bangladesh held at Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry
A Roundtable Meeting on RMG Industry of Bangladesh: Prospects in Japan was held on 16 March 2017 at Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry. It was organized by the Embassy of Bangladesh, Tokyo and The Japan-Bangladesh Committee for Commercial and Economic Co-operation (JBCCEC) of The Japan and Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The event was supported by Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and Japan Textiles Importers Association (JTIA). It was attended by the representatives of the entities mentioned above along with prominent Japanese companies engaged in RMG business in Bangladesh.
Her Excellency Ms. Rabab Fatima, Ambassador of Bangladesh welcomed the participants. It was followed by remarks of JTIA. Key Note Speech was made by Ms. Rubana Huq, Managing Director, Mohammadi Group. Presentations were made by Mr. Toshihiro Naka of Fast Retailing Co. Ltd. (UNIQLO) and Mr. Masahiro Hiraishi, President, Maruhisa Co., Ltd. Mr. Salahuddin Kasem Khan, President, Japan-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industryurged the Japanese companies to invest in Bangladesh to establish backward linkage industry. During the Q & A/Open discussion, matters like establishing value chain, joint venture in R& D and Industrial technology sharing were raised. On safety and security issue, Her Excellency Ambassador briefed about the latest situation and the recent developments including the close cooperation with the Japanese government regarding ensuring safety for Japanese nationals and their investment.
Throughout the program, potentials of Bangladesh RMG sector and cooperation between Bangladesh and Japan were discussed. Future investment opportunities in establishing backward linkage and value addition were pointed out for further exploration. The event concluded in a positive note with an idea of possible follow up events in Bangladesh.
