Dr. Sahida Akter is currently working as the Charge d’ Affaires of Bangladesh Embassy, Tokyo, Japan.
Immediately before taking the current assignment, she served as Economic Minister in the Economic Wing, Bangladesh Embassy, Tokyo since 03 October 2016. Having joined Bangladesh Civil Service in 1991, she held several important positions in different Ministries and Divisions of the government.
She worked in the Cabinet Division (2014-16) as Joint Secretary and played key roles in ensuring efficiency and effectiveness of public service delivery by local administration through monitoring the activities of field administration.
She served as the National Consultant in DMTBF and SFA project (2013-14) jointly implemented by World Bank and Finance Division. She was responsible to develop necessary guidelines and training materials on Gender Budget Report of 40 ministries which explains how different activities of various ministries have implications for women’s advancement and rights in Bangladesh.

She also served in the Ministry of Public Administration (2003), Ministry of Women & Children Affairs (2004), Ministry of Industries (2007), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (2008-10), Ministry of Home Affairs (2010-13) at different level and played pivotal role to implement the major policy guidelines of the concerned ministry.

She acted as Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), the chief executing officer at Mymensingh Sadar Upazila (subdistrict) in 2008 and played an important role in planning, executing and supervision of all development activities of the government including healthcare, sanitation, education etc. at the grass root level.

She did Master of Science degree from Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand on Gender and Development Studies (2001-02). She also obtained Ph.D degree titled ‘Gender Discrimination at Workplace: A Study in Garments Industry in Bangladesh’ (2004-07).

Dr Sahida Akter’s speciality is in Women Empowerment and Gender Development issues.

She received many honors and awards including the ‘Joyeeta Award’ for her academic and service career achievements from the Ministry of Women & Children Affairs in 2016.

Dr. Sahida Akter is married to IT Professional Mr. M. Anisuzzaman and blessed with a son Sadid Md Zaman and a daughter Anika Intesar. Reading books is her favorite pastime.
